I am constantly inspired by one of a kind art, especially wearable art. From a young age I have chosen to express myself through jewelry - whether that is with anklets covering my ankles, bracelets all up and down my arms, or getting a new piercing ever few years.
After exploring craft stores, I began to desire more unique charms for earrings and then I toured some Makerspaces at the Innovation Center. I saw a great opportunity to create one-of-a-kind laser cut acrylic earrings to fill this desire for more limited earrings. I proposed this project in my Graphic Design Graduate Studio II last Spring and my professor was immediately on board.
To complete this project I created my designs in Adobe Illustrator, received training on the laser cutters, and returned to the studio space with 13 different colors of acrylic. Once the pieces were cut, I began assembling the earrings with jump rings and earring backs. This sparked an incredible amount of inspiration. These earrings have become a driving force in my thesis project as a big part of my exhibit will be a laser cut mobile.
