Group Project | Second Floor | Assisted Living
Fall of 2021 I was placed in a group with two other interior design students and we were assigned to remodel the Park Fair Mall in Des Moines, Iowa to a Continued Care Retirement Community. Our project client was farmers of Iowa and we focused on having private spaces but also public areas so the residents can socialize. The purpose of Jardin is to create a space suitable for the physical needs of continuing care users, while maintaining an engaging and dynamic atmosphere, using evidence-based design and Biophilia. The space will emphasize community through the incorporation of Iowa’s culture and history of farming into the design. Features like a rooftop garden and integrated walkway will encourage active growth, contributing to the youthful nature of the design. The facility environment will encompass a home-like feeling, easing the transition from independent living to a continuing care facility. These elements will create both a comforting and lively atmosphere for residents, maintaining a mentally and physically active environment.
